Puerto Escondido Residence
The Puerto Escondido Residence is organized as three palapa volumes facing the Pacific Ocean: a larger open pavilion at the center, flanked by two smaller side volumes. Laseu Studio reconfigured the existing beach house to accommodate additional guests while preserving the original waterfront façade and the unobstructed quality of the central public space.
The side volumes were expanded away from the beach, allowing new rooms to be added without compromising the open-air character of the house. Bedrooms and kitchen areas occupy the side volumes, while the central pavilion remains fully open to the pool terrace, ocean views, and cross-ventilation.
The renovation kept the existing architectural language and introduced warmer, earth-toned finishes throughout. Most of the furniture was designed as built-in elements, responding to the exposure of the beachfront environment while giving the interiors a more permanent, architectural quality.
In the primary suite, a large open room was reconfigured with a built-in Tsalam wood headboard and partial wall, creating a new bathroom sequence behind the bed with double vanities on the opposite side. This intervention also allowed an additional bedroom to be created using the existing bathroom.
Wood, rattan, linen, and woven textures are paired with regional references, including backlit clay comales in the dining area, woven baskets used as floor lanterns, and a large petate-wrapped canvas. The result is a calm coastal retreat where the design remains minimal, functional, and closely connected to the beach.
